Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway said the Biden administration named Vice President Kamala Harris the electric vehicle czar to keep her busy and out of trouble.
“Making her czar over electric vehicles, which is a part of our economy that’s actually going pretty well and doesn’t really need a czar. Czars are put in charge of complex situations where you need to navigate multiple agencies and deal with complex problems. She was put in charge of one of those difficult things, which is the border,” Hemingway said.
Hemingway also noted that as President Joe Biden declines, Harris could step up and show “herself to be a serious person who has the chops to become president,” but she hasn’t done that yet.
“Everybody knows that Joe Biden, who’s also struggling mightily, is probably not going to make it to a second term. She’s the natural person you would think through, but she has to show that she’s up for it,” Hemingway said. “Even though she’s a former senator, they haven’t put her in charge of any legislation.”
Despite narratives claiming that the Biden-Harris administration would be one “where the adults would be in charge,” Hemingway contrasted its failures with the last administration, where former Vice President Mike Pence undertook many legislative duties and even assisted with COVID relief.
“He was a former governor. He worked on very serious issues,” Hemingway said. “This woman. who’s a former senator, seems to be given busy work because she’s such a disaster anytime she touches anything.”
