Pamela Anderson is ready to tell her side of the story.
Many fans didn’t realize the true origin of the “Baywatch” alum’s infamous sex tape with ex-husband Tommy Lee, or how it got leaked in the first place. The story of Lee and Anderson’s tumultuous relationship was the subject of the recently released Hulu docuseries, “Pam & Tommy.” But the actress didn’t participate in the project at all.
Now the 54-year-old Canadian-American is ready to share her perspective on what happened in the late 1990s and beyond. The Playboy model shared her intentions via an Instagram post Wednesday which appeared to be written on Netflix branded stationery.
“My life. A thousand imperfections. A million misperceptions. Wicked, wild and lost. Nothing to live up to,” the photo reads.
“I can only surprise you. Not a victim, but a survivor. And alive to tell the real story,” it says with the image of a lipstick-stained kiss at the bottom.
Anderson had deleted her Instagram account about a year ago.
According to Variety, a documentary about Anderson’s life has “has been in the making for several years.” Unlike “Pam & Tommy,” the project will include Anderson’s input and other contributions that make it unique, including archival footage plus excerpts from personal journals. The film’s logline calls the new project “an intimate portrait embedded in the life of Pamela Anderson as she looks back at her professional and personal path and prepares for the next steps on her journey.”
Anderson’s son Brandon Thomas Lee is a producer on the project. He reposted the same note on his Instagram story and emphased the phrase, “The real story.” The actress’s other son, Dylan Jagger Lee, did the same. The as-yet-untitled project is being called the “definitive documentary about the pop culture icon.”
In January, Entertainment Weekly reported that Anderson was not involved in “Pam & Tommy” and never gave anyone permission to make it.
“Pam & Tommy” showrunners and the actress playing her, Lily James, say they attempted to reach out to Anderson as the project was being worked on, but they say Anderson never got back to them.
“We particularly wanted to let Pamela Anderson know that this portrayal was very much a positive thing and that we cared a great deal about her and wanted her to know that the show loves her,” showrunner D.V. DeVincentis told EW. “We didn’t get a response, but considering what she’s been through and the time that we were reaching out, that was understandable.”
Rumors persisted that Anderson was not happy with the Hulu docuseries based on one of the most dramatic times of her life, though the “Baywatch” alum didn’t comment on it publicly. Anderson’s longtime friend Courtney Love allegedly shared her thoughts about “Pam & Tommy” in a now-deleted Facebook post last year, according to Vanity Fair.
Love supposedly called the project “so f***ing outrageous,” and accused the creators of “further causing” Anderson “complex trauma.”
