The “devout Catholic” Joe Biden might want to take a lesson from deceased Catholic Bishop Fulton Sheen on the difference between “blarney” vs. “baloney” after a recently leaked memo showed the White House is pushing the lie that Americans are better off now than they were a year ago. Sheen once said that the difference between blarney vs. baloney is that “blarney is the varnished truth. Baloney is the unvarnished lie. Blarney is flattery laid on just thin enough to like it. Baloney is flattery laid on so thick we hate it.” It seems Biden never learned that lesson as applied to America’s quality of life for several reasons.
On Tuesday, Axios reported that the Biden White House has been circulating a memo around allied groups titled “2021: POTUS Delivered Results for Working Families” and attempts to “frame Biden’s Year 1 as a season of accomplishment, despite the collapse of Build Back Better at year’s end.”
One of the examples team Biden used is the record number of Americans who have received the COVID-19 vaccine shot. One slide brags that just 1% of Americans had received the COVID-19 vaccine before Biden took office, and in December 2021 more than 71% of eligible Americans have received the shot.
As pointed out by Drew Holden, that number might sound impressive until you realize that the first COVID shots were not even available until December 2020. Logistically speaking, it would have been very difficult to get more than 1% of the population vaccinated by the time Biden took office.
Holden’s Twitter thread this past weekend was a brilliant takedown of the lies and — to borrow a D.C-Beltway phrase — mistruths coming from the White House. It is well worth the read.
Additionally, the memo claims that Biden’s administration has taken steps to bring down prices on consumer goods. While that might be true, it does not necessarily mean that those policies are helping, Holden noted:
But it gets even more ridiculous when the Biden Admin tries to combat reality on inflation.

Last week, The Daily Wire reported that wholesale prices rose an astonishing 9.6% over the last year. All in all, these inflation stats mean that the typical American family took a $3,500 pay cut this year, The Daily Wire also reported.
Biden’s memo also bragged about his supposed economic success such as low unemployment claims, but that belies the fact 16 out of the top 20 states with the lowest unemployment claims many are led by GOP governors who have used COVID-19 measures that didn’t stifle growth and hamper an economic rebound. Likewise, as noted by the RNC’s Jacki Kotkiewicz, 17 out of the top 20 states for jobs recovered since the pandemic began are led by Republican governors.

Of course, any American who has gone grocery shopping or paid for gas recently doesn’t need to be told how bad the economy is — they can feel it in their wallets.
In the full quote on blarney vs. baloney, Sheen adds that “To tell a woman who is 40, ‘You look like16,’ is baloney. The blarney way of saying it is ‘Tell me how old you are, I should like to know at what age women are the most beautiful.’”
Perhaps Biden’s communications team needs to figure out the blarney way of making their boss look good — as tough as that may be.
