The View’s Joy Behar has been known to bloviate about herself with a uniquely self-absorbed style of speaking, but it seems that she reserved her most head-scratching comments for Tuesday as she claimed that Fox News’ Tucker Carlson should be considered “almost irrelevant” because his television show only attracts three million viewers each night. Based on some recent Nielsen ratings, The View has a much smaller audience than Carlson, which must mean she thinks that her respective show is totally irrelevant.

The Washington Free Beacon flagged that Behar dabbled into some media history on ABC by bringing up the fact that anti-Semitic radio host Fr. Charles Coughlin, in a country of 127 million, had between 30 to 40 million listeners of his radio program. For comparison, “Tucker Carlson has, in a country of 326 million people, he has three million listeners … he’s almost irrelevant.”

For context, during the week of May 2, Carlson’s show, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” was the second most-watched cable news program averaging 3.3 million viewers each night. For the year 2021, Carlson averaged 3.214 million viewers each night. Not everybody has cable, but Carlson also has more than five million followers on Twitter.

During that same time period in April, on the other hand, The View had an average of 2.214 million viewers per day. Data indicates that The View has had similar numbers measured at other times over the past year as well. As for social media, The View does not even have one million followers on Twitter. Its official Twitter account has 887,843 followers. Behar has slightly more than one million followers.

It would appear that few people, using Behar’s standards, want to listen to Behar lament the loss of her Italian vacation due to war in Ukraine. Nor do Americans want to hear her call for sex strikes in the wake of Roe v. Wade possibly being overturned.

Of course, Behar’s latest opinion of Carlson belies the fact that she speaks about him with some frequency on the daytime television show she co-hosts. For example, in March, Behar suggested Carlson was responsible for allowing Russian President Vladimir Putin to get away with war crimes.

“What they’re parroting — what Tucker Carlson parrots every night on Fox News, what Tulsi Gabbard is spreading — is actually helping Putin get away with criminal acts against innocent Ukrainian civilians,” Behar said at the time. “It’s horrifying, and what’s so hard for me to understand, we’ve all been watching in horror as these people have been killed, mothers in maternity wings. Can you imagine taking the position of ‘Eh, Putin, not so bad of a guy?’”

That is quite the comment to make about a supposed host whom everybody should ignore.

It is doubtful her remarks on Tuesday will be the last time Behar mentions Carlson by name — despite his alleged irrelevance.
