Kirk Cameron said “it’s time for a homeschool awakening” on Friday when he dropped the trailer for his upcoming documentary aptly titled, “The Homeschool Awakening,” which hits theaters in June.
The 51-year-old actor explained why he started this project two and a half years ago in a video he posted on Instagram for his hundreds of thousands of followers. He captioned his post by saying it is time for “us parents to cultivate the hearts, souls, and minds of our children” and step away from the public school system which he claimed is “actively working against us. ”
“It’s time for a Homeschool Awakening!” Cameron wrote. “It’s upon us parents to cultivate the hearts, souls, and minds of our children. Today’s public school systems are not working for us, they are actively working against us. Public education has become Public Enemy No. 1.”
The trailer kicks off with talking heads in media and politicians like former Governor Terry McAuliffe (D-VA) touting the line that seems to be popular these days on the left and that parents should have no say in what is being taught to their children in school.
The video features a handful of parents describing their previous ideas about what homeschooling was and who the kind of people were that were engaging in teaching their children away from the public schools.
“I always viewed homeschooling as somewhat of a cult,” one parent shared.
That it’s for “different people,” “quiet” and “reclusive ones,” touts another.
Later, two parents explained how they realized they “didn’t have to be a special needs teacher, we only had to be a teacher of our daughter.”
While another person described the homeschooling experience as one where parents are in “control” and you get to choose “the curriculum” for your kids.
At the end his Instagram video, the “Fireproof” star said the reason he decided to do this documentary is for the future of our children and the country.
“I made this movie because I care deeply about my children,” Cameron explained. “And I care about your children and about their future. And the future of our country.”
Cameron explains that since the pandemic, parents have learned about the “inaccurate” and “immoral things” that public schools are teaching children.
“And I think America needs a film like this right now,” Cameron concluded. “We need to take back the education of our children. Because whoever controls the textbooks controls the future. Whoever’s shaping the hearts and minds and souls of our children will determine whether or not we live in a free country.”
