Meghan McCain said the Biden administration’s push to create a “disinformation board” to police free speech should “petrify every American.”

The former co-host of “The View” compared the Department of Homeland Security’s announcement of the creation of the “Disinformation Governance Board” to something right out of the dystopian action drama 2005 film “V for Vendetta.”

“‘Disinformation board’ is straight out of ‘V for Vendetta,’ and it should petrify every American,” McCain tweeted Friday to her hundreds of thousands of followers.

Earlier this week, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced the new governing board during his testimony Wednesday before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, reported Fox News. The news came about just two days after reports surfaced that Elon Musk had purchased Twitter.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned, “This is who the government is trying to put in charge of regulating YOUR speech,” as previously reported by The Daily Wire. His post included a video of Nina Jankowicz, who will head the board as executive director. She previously served as a disinformation fellow at the Wilson Center, reported the outlet.

Former game show host Chuck Woolery said for those concerned about this board to “take comfort” this “will backfire” on the Democrats.

For those who might have missed it, “V for Vendetta” is a political action drama in an Orwellian time in Britain under a totalitarian regime.

“In a future British dystopian society, a shadowy freedom fighter, known only by the alias of ‘V,’ plots to overthrow the tyrannical government – with the help of a young woman,” a description on IMDb read.

The movie, directed by James McTeigue, is adapted from a comic book miniseries by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. In 2021, McTeigue looked back at the last 15 years and said they were “projecting forward.”

“If we had put some of the things that have happened in the 15 years since the film came out into our script now, no one would’ve believed it,” McTeigue shared, the magazine noted. “Of course there wouldn’t be a virus that cripples the world, of course there wouldn’t be a psychopath in the White House who encourages his followers to start a raid on the Capitol Building and of course Boris Johnson could not possibly be the Prime Minister. Some of the topics we were trying to discuss have either come true or gone much further than we ever thought they would go.”

“We were projecting forward,” he added. “Just as Alan Moore and David Lloyd wrote their original graphic novel as a response to [former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher] Thatcherism, we were taking on the [former President George W.] Bush regime and trying to make a comment on that. What we were really doing with the film was saying that a lot of politics is cyclical; you always go through times where you have tin-pot dictators for totalitarian or reactionary governments. We were holding a magnifying glass to that.”
