Meghan McCain called Gina Carano “un-cancelable” and wrote the reason is simply that the actress refused to allow Hollywood and the left to destroy her career.
In a Daily Mail article published Tuesday, titled “Gina Carano is un-cancelable because she says so,” the former cohost of “The View” praised the actress — who was canceled by Disney in February 2021 over social media posts the company deemed offensive. Her latest feature film with The Daily Wire is “Terror On The Prairie,” and McCain wrote that the actress is the “type of woman” she wants her daughter “to see in the movies and pop culture.”
“The best thing that my dad ever told me was, ‘if you want to have a birthday party, you better throw it yourself,” Carano told McCain. “Hollywood is just somewhere in California. And Hollywood is not art.”
McCain wrote about how Gina went from being an MMA Fighter to an actress, starring in such movies as “Deadpool” and “Haywire” before landing the role of Cara Dune in Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.”
McCainn said when the actress decided to speak out publicly about “everything from social to political issues in America” that’s when things changed for her. And that “it was clear that she [Carano] was having her livelihood taken away from her for having the wrong politics,” she wrote.
Carano admitted that, at the time, the backlash against her was “so confusing.”
“I don’t feel like I did anything wrong,” she said. “I understand now that there’s words that can be better used and that are certainly more sensitive. But if people read it now after a year or more has passed and they look at it and they think: ‘Wait a second, there’s no way you just canceled for that.’”
“If this can happen to me then this can happen to anyone,” she added. “We have kids that don’t need to go through all of this. We need to show these kids that we can have conversations.”
Carano explained that she thinks people will look back at this time — which McCain referred to as this “oppressive, hyper-woke environment” — and wonder what they did to make it better.
“Some of us are going to be very proud of what we have done here,” the actress shared. “A lot of people are going to feel a little bit shame for not participating in making this world a better place than it was.”
And when she asked the actress if she thinks she will return to Hollywood, Carano said “there needs to be some accountability for there to be healing in America and in the entertainment industry… I think the head of the snake is going to have to get cut off a couple of these massive corporations.”
Carano said “the future” is The Daily Wire — who is giving the audience the chance to be heard.
“The more everybody starts creating, like we did with ‘Terror on the Prairie,’ the more the mainstream will have to start including us, because people are flocking to it,” the actress said. “We’re wriggling free and they have to include us.”
(Disclosure: The Daily Wire has announced plans for kids entertainment content.)
