Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) dodged addressing the FBI raid of former President Donald Trump’s home as he took questions Tuesday from reporters in Kentucky.

McConnell had traveled to Kentucky, his home state, following deadly flooding in the eastern part of the state. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden also visited Kentucky on Monday.

“I’m here today to talk about the flood and recovery from the flood,” the Kentucky Republican responded. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Wire.

His response prompted strong criticism from conservatives, who pointed out that McConnell has yet to weigh in on the shocking FBI raid.

“Mitch McConnell is an anti-American POS,” tweeted X Strategies CEO Alex Bruesewitz. “Any ‘Republican’ that supports this guy is either on his payroll, a coward, or a traitor.”

“The GOP Senate leadership is still silent about the FBI’s raid on Mar-A-Lago. If we don’t take the Senate it’s on McConnell and his lackeys,” tweeted host Mark Levin. “They’re absolutely awful.”

Critics on social media pointed out that disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo weighed in on the raid before McConnell did.

Others pointed to McConnell’s remarks following the January 6 Capitol riot, in which he denounced Trump’s actions preceding the riot as “a disgraceful dereliction of duty,” adding, “there is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day.”

“President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office, as an ordinary citizen, unless the statute of limitations has run, still liable for everything he did while in office, didn’t get away with anything yet – yet,” he said at the time. “We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. And former presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one.”
