Pro-abortion protesters who showed up to demonstrate at mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles were promptly ushered out of the church by attendees, video footage shows.

The Los Angeles Police Department told The Daily Wire on Monday afternoon that though police officers responded to disturbances at the cathedral on Sunday, they are not seeking the the pro-abortion protesters for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act since the cathedral did not attempt to pursue any charges.

“By the time we responded, the protesters had left the location,” a spokeswoman said. “Officers remained at the location for any further protests.”

The FACE Act prohibits “violent, threatening, damaging and obstructive conduct intended to injure, intimidate, or interfere with the right” to obtain abortions.

It also bans the use of force, physical obstruction, injury, or intimidation to “injure, intimidate or interfere with any person lawfully exercising or seeking to exercise the First Amendment right of religious freedom at a place of religious worship.”

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles said in a statement to The Daily Wire that “the incident was handled accordingly by Cathedral Security ensuring limited disruption of Mass,” noting that “demonstrations had been anticipated across the country.”

“We continue to join our prayers as an Archdiocese in solidarity with the US Catholic Bishops to pray for change in our laws to help all women in need in our communities,” the archdiocese statement said.

Video footage shows Catholics kneeling shortly before the distribution of communion, according to the Catholic News Agency, while several pro-abortion protesters, most dressed like handmaids, stand in the aisles of the Cathedral.

“Respect us,” the mass attendees can be heard telling the protesters. Several women can be seen sitting in the pews of the church with roses next to them, which the church presumably handed out for Mother’s Day.

One masked woman, who appears to be either an usher or attendee at the mass, can be seen pushing the protesters out of the aisles. The organist begins playing as the handmaids depart the church.

“I have a right to my body,” yells one of the handmaids, as a small group of people half-pushed, half-escorted her out of the church. “My choice!”

“Get out of here,” a man can be heard yelling.

“Get your hands off me!” she yells repeatedly, her voice echoing off the walls of the cathedral.

Leftist organizations had called for abortion supporters to demonstrate at the homes of conservative Supreme Court justices. One of these groups, Ruth Sent Us, also called for protesters to “stand at or in a local Catholic Church” on Sunday, Mother’s Day.

“It’s despicable, anti-Catholic bigotry,” Roger Severino, the former director of the Office of Civil Rights at the United States Department of Health and Human Services, said last week, “because the church stands in defense of innocent human life. It doesn’t get any more offensive than that, to try to interfere with somebody’s First Amendment freedoms in the name of supporting abortion on demand.”

The Daily Wire observed police guarding multiple parishes in Washington, D.C. on Capitol Hill after the parishes alerted parishioners to be on the lookout for disturbances. Pro-abortion protesters do not appear to have disrupted any D.C. masses.

“Whether you’re a ‘Catholic for Choice’, ex-Catholic, of other or no faith, recognize that six extremist Catholics set out to overturn Roe,” Ruth Sent Us tweeted. “Stand at or in a local Catholic Church Sun May 8.”
