A teacher in Sacramento, California, was paid out a stunning $190,000 to resign from his post after an investigation found that he used his position to push his own political beliefs, including his admiration for Antifa and communism, on his students.
Gabriel Gipe made waves in 2021 when guerrilla journalism organization Project Veritas released video of the teacher admitting that he tried to turn his students into “revolutionaries” and offered extra credit for attending far-left Antifa events.
The Natomas Unified School District found that Gipe had committed “clear violations of political activity” in the classroom, KCRA 3 News reported this week.
In exchange for his resignation from Inderkum High School, the district agreed to pay the teacher three years’ salary, amounting to $190,000. It was paid out to him in two checks.
The “outrageous” payout did not go unnoticed by the National Right to Work Foundation, a nonprofit aimed at advancing right-to-work laws.
“For years teacher union bosses have manipulated their government-granted monopoly control over schools to shield bad teachers from any sort of accountability to parents or taxpayers,” foundation president Mark Mix said in a statement sent to The Daily Wire. “In such an environment, it shouldn’t come as a surprise when school districts have to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to oust teachers who are flagrantly abusing their power to harm students.”
“This case is another example of why it is time to eliminate the monopoly bargaining power enjoyed by teacher union officials, so they cannot continue to protect the worst teachers to the detriment of students, parents, and even hardworking good teachers whose interests are undermined by misplaced union priorities,” Mix added.
The investigation into Gipe also uncovered that he would create a hostile environment for conservative students. The teacher once posted photos of the conservative students on a political compass next to a swastika, The Sacrament Bee reported.
“I have 180 days to turn them into revolutionaries,” Gipe said in shocking Project Veritas video released last year, The Daily Wire reported. “[I] scare the f*** out of them.”
“I post a calendar [of Antifa events] every week,” the teacher admitted. “And so like I do it for extra credit. So, [students] get points for doing it. Like and so, that encourages them to do it. And I’ve had students show up for protests, community events, tabling, food distribution. All sorts of things … When they go, they take pictures, they write up a reflection, that’s their extra credit.”
Gipe also said on video that he had an Antifa flag on his classroom wall, and did not care if his students were uncomfortable, accusing them of being fascists.
“Like, I have an Antifa flag on my wall,” he said on video. “And a student complained about that, and he said it made him feel uncomfortable … Well, this is meant to make fascists feel uncomfortable, so if you feel uncomfortable. I don’t really know what to tell you. Maybe you shouldn’t be aligning with the values that this is antithetical to.”
