An 18-year-old New Mexico woman faces charges after tossing her newborn infant into a dumpster where the baby was later found alive, according to police.

The 411 Hobbs NM Neighborhood Watch group shared multiple videos on Facebook on Sunday regarding the Friday night incident.

The surveillance footage shows a white car pulling up to a set of three trash dumpsters in Hobbs, New Mexico. The driver stepped out of car, lifted a black trash bag from the back seat, tossed it into the dumpster, and drove away.

Nearly six hours later, a second video showed three people at the dumpster at night. One person lifted the bag from the dumpster and the infant was found alive.

The infant was reportedly taken to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where the child is in stable condition.

Jim Imbriale, who runs the Rig Outfitters & Homestore and Scrub Outfitters, shared an updated post with the group.

I’m reaching out to all you prayer warriors right now. I’m still shook up from what I saw. I got a call from our local PD tonight asking me if my cameras in back of our store work. Said yes and they ask me to come down so they could watch them. Got there and there was cops all over. They came inside and we started to watch the video. They said they were looking for someone dumping a black trash bag. Right then I turned to them and said please do not tell me it was a baby. They said yes and it was still alive. The new born baby was in the dumpster for 5 hours before somebody heard crying. They said the baby is doing well. Thank God for my cameras. They said they should be able to identify this person. This is a miracle baby and I would like all of you to pray for this new born.

“I can’t sleep at night just knowing that this baby was just tossed in a dumpster like that. I’m sorry but who does that? That is evil. I don’t have words for it,” Imbriale later added.

A Hobbs Police spokesman said the reported 18-year-old mother was later arrested and reportedly confessed to the incident.

“She was booked on suspicion of attempt to commit murder and child abuse,” Fox 29 reported on Monday. The mother is expected to be arraigned Monday in District Court.

The Hobbs Police Department also released a statement concerning the incident.

“On January 7, 2022, at approximately 8:00 PM officers with the Hobbs Police Department responded to 1400 block of N. Thorp in reference to a new born child being located in a dumpster,” the report noted.

“Upon arrival officers rendered aid to the new born child and the baby was transported to a local hospital by Hobbs EMS. The child was subsequently transported to a Lubbock Hospital for further pediatric treatment,” it added.
