Last week, D.C. started looking a lot like the 1984 film “Footloose,” after Mayor Muriel Bowser banned standing and dancing at receptions in her latest COVID restrictions decree. On Wednesday, Bowser doubled down on the dance ban, even if everyone participating is vaccinated and wearing masks.
The announcement comes just in time for the spring high school prom and wedding season.
Bowser dodged the pointed question about whether vaccinated, mask-wearing D.C. residents could dance from CNN host of “New Day,” Alisyn Camerota. Bowser said she would consider “opening more activity, as our case rates go down and our vaccination rates go up.”
Since Bowser’s vague answer does not give any specific vaccination numbers or a time frame, it appears D.C. residents, vaccinated or not, will continue living in Bomont – I mean D.C.

“What good is a wedding without dancing, Mayor? And why no dancing?” Camerota asked.
Bowser said D.C. residents should feel lucky they can get married at all.
“An alternate headline may be, ‘now you can host a wedding in Washington D.C., a regional meeting, you can have your friends and family for a family reunion, and birthday parties at our hotels and restaurants.’”
Apparently getting married, seeing your family, having a birthday party, or going out to eat are privileges that can be revoked at the whims of Mayor Bowser.
Not only can you not dance at your wedding, the latest D.C. order declares that weddings are capped at 25 percent capacity, and a waiver is required for more than 250 people.
In a statement to local affiliate Fox 5 DC, Bowser’s office said it has the dancing ban in place as an extra layer of safety to reduce the spread of COVID-19. According to Bowser’s office, when people stand and dance their behavior changes, and they are more likely to get close and touch each other, all reasons the Taliban cites for also banning and punishing those who dance. To be fair, the Taliban’s sentences are much steeper.
D.C. is not the only state living out the plot of “Footloose” by banning dancing. Illinois and Michigan also have similar bans.
It’s Footloose come to life, except it is leftist, anti-science failures and control freaks like DC’s Mayor and her bureaucratic allies rather than Reverend Shaw Moore who are banning the dancing. https://t.co/8UGzQPf1x6 pic.twitter.com/aq6mt6vjN9
