Two months after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v. Wade and dozens of woke U.S. companies including the Walt Disney Company pledged to subsidize out-of-state abortions for their female employees, Disney subsidiary Hulu quietly cut back its maternity and paternity leave from 20 weeks to eight.

New data from the Society for Human Resource Management as reported in The Wall Street Journal indicates that Hulu is not alone in the decision to scale back benefits for working parents. Of the 3,000 companies surveyed by SHRM, the number of employers offering paid maternity leave “beyond what is required by law” dropped from 53 percent in 2020 to 35 percent in 2022, reportedly to “confront inflation, anticipate a recession and try to re-establish prepandemic norms.”

Where was that financial savviness and urgency in June when human resource departments at these Fortune 500 firms and Wall Street giants were tripping over themselves to guarantee the deaths of unborn children so they could keep women working?

Ever since the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, it’s become increasingly clear that the political left and its institutional allies such as big business have no interest in helping or supporting mothers.

Think about it. Despite the fact that nearly 2 in every 3 Americans support public funding for them, it was leftists like Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren who called for life-saving pregnancy clinics to be shut down.

When radical pro-abortionists under the name “Jane’s Revenge” violently attacked dozens of clinics, churches, and pro-life organizations dedicated to aiding pregnant women and a group called “Ruth Sent Us” harrassed Republican-nominated SCOTUS justices, federal law enforcement showed little to no interest in pursuing or prosecuting those threats.

Instead of condemning the attacks on the facilities that offer help to the vulnerable women abortion activists often tout, Democrats demanded Big Tech nuke search results for pregnancy centers which they smear as “fake clinics.” Some, such as Michigan’s Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, went so far as to cut care for pregnant women out of state budgets.

At the same time, the Biden administration and blue politicians are pushing to normalize unpopular abortion radicalism and punish Republican states for caring for babies and mothers.

Since several Republican states acted swiftly to restrict or ban abortion, it’s fair to assume that there will be an uptick in pregnant women, especially young women, seeking assistance and care for a baby they might have previously considered aborting. But the left’s increasingly hostile stance toward women having children isn’t going to help those women navigate their pregnancies.

It’s no secret that it’s cheaper for companies to pay for out-of-state abortions than to give working mothers the flexibility they need to stay engaged as a parent to a newborn child. That’s why so many companies have adopted policies designed to keep women childless and are dropping others that affirm a working mom’s decision to have a baby.

The left likes to lie that abortion is meant to empower women and give them the “right to choose.” But what about the women who choose to get or stay pregnant? For them, the left shows nothing but animosity.
