There will be many weekends in the upcoming months that allow for activities and vacations. July and August weekends are for the family when opportunities for trips to the beach or mountains — depending on your preference and location — are plentiful.

May is not one of those months.

The Stanley Cup and NBA playoffs are in full swing, Major League Baseball is settling into its 182-game season, and perfect weather for golf is nearing its close. The time for sports watching is now.

I’ll be getting my errands and woodworking done in the morning, in an effort to firmly plant myself in front of the television for the remainder of the day. How else are you going to get the insight and analysis on what you just watched?

Let’s take a look at a jam-packed weekend of sports.

PGA Championship

The 2021 PGA Championship at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island is not for your average weekend golfer, but through two rounds, it is for Phil Mickelson.

Mickelson shot a three-under 69 on Friday and currently sits at 5-under for the tournament, one off the leader Louis Oosthuizen.

Brooks Koepka — the four-time major winner — is also six-under for the tournament, while fan-favorite Rickie Fowler sits at one-over as he searches for his first major victory.

Rounds three and four can be seen on CBS starting at 1:00 pm EST on Saturday and Sunday.

NBA Playoffs

We’re back! After a regular season that was as poorly played as any season in recent memory, the NBA Playoffs are here to save the day.

The newly installed play-in tournament has seen various levels of success — multiple blowouts but also a fantastic LA Lakers vs Golden State Warriors matchup — and the playoff seeding is almost set.

On Friday night, the Warriors will host the Memphis Grizzlies on ESPN at 9pm EST, with the winner securing the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Golden State narrowly missed out on the seventh seed after losing to the Lakers 103-100 Wednesday night, right after the Griz beat the San Antonio Spurs to keep their season alive. It’s been the Steph Curry show all season — Curry was announced as one of the three finalists for the 2021 NBA MVP award — and I expect his hot streak to continue. The NBA is hoping to see Curry in the playoffs, and so am I.

Saturday is a doozy with four playoff games on the slate.

Miami @ Milwaukee 2:00pm EST, Dallas @ LA Clippers 4:30PM EST, Boston @ Brooklyn 8:00pm EST, and Portland @ Denver 9:30pm EST should keep any NBA fan entertained.

The action continues on Sunday, as the two number one seeds in the Eastern and Western Conference — the Utah Jazz and Philadelphia 76ers — begin their title pursuit.

Washington @ Philadelphia 1:00pm EST, LA Lakers @ Phoenix 3:30pm EST, Atlanta @ New York 7:00pm EST, and Golden State/Memphis @ Utah 9:30 EST will be a great way to wind down the weekend.

Stanley Cup Playoffs

After a brief Covid testing scare, the NHL playoffs are cruising along. You may have to decide if you’re watching basketball or hockey this weekend, or just dive in and fire up multiple TV’s.

Carolina goes for a commanding 3-0 lead in Nashville Friday night at 7:00pm EST, while the Colorado Avalanche look to do the same in St. Louis at 9:30pm EST.

Check out the Saturday and Sunday NHL slate below:
