Twitter announced Sunday that the personal account for Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) had been permanently suspended for “repeated violations” of the social media platform’s policy on COVID-19 vaccine “misinformation.”

Twitter gave a statement to The Hill on Sunday, confirming that the account (@mtgreenee) had been permanently suspended.

We permanently suspended the account you referenced (@mtgreenee) for repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy. We’ve been clear that, per our strike system for this policy, we will permanently suspend accounts for repeated violations of the policy.

According to New York Times tech reporter Davey Alba, Twitter confirmed to him that Greene had “five strikes” against her with regard to the platform’s medical misinformation policy, and she would not be allowed to reinstate her account.

“Twitter confirms to me that Marjorie Taylor Greene has gotten up to 5 strikes on its Covid-19 misinformation policy. She’s not coming back,” Alba said.

“Twitter also confirms she still has access to her official account @RepMTG, as it’s not currently in violation of the Twitter Rules. But Twitter has banned accounts before (notably Trump) for ban evasion. So if violating tweets appear there, it’ll likely be suspended too,” Alba continued.

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale responded to the news in a couple of Sunday tweets, saying, “Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s 465K-follower personal Twitter account, the one she used to say lots of false things, has been permanently banned from Twitter. She still has a 386K-follower official account, which she has so far used for comparatively benign purposes.”

“Greene’s personal account was banned for violating the Covid-19 misinformation policy, Twitter says. She used the account for dishonesty about much more than Covid-19,” Dale added.

Many, including Marcus Flowers — a Democrat who intends to challenge Greene in her 2022 reelection bid — have previously called for Greene to be removed from Twitter and/or Congress.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene shouldn’t be on Twitter or in Congress,” Flowers tweeted on December 28, just days before Greene’s personal account was suspended.

On December 29, Congressman Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) tweeted, “The fact that a sitting Member of Congress is toying with the idea of a civil war 8 days before January 6 should alarm everyone. We expelled 14 Members in 1861 for supporting the confederacy. Why does Marjorie Taylor Greene still have her seat? She must be expelled.”

Greene responded via Telegram, according to Alba, saying, ” Maxine Waters can go to the streets and threaten violence on Twitter, Kamala and Ilhan can bail out Black Lives Matter terrorists on Twitter, CNN and the rest of the Democrat Propaganda Media can spread Russia collusion lies, and just yesterday the Chief spokesman for terrorist IRGC can tweet mourning Soleimani, but I get suspended for tweeting VAERS statistics. Twitter is an enemy to America and can’t handle the truth.”

Greene’s official congressional account, as several noted, is still active on Twitter.
