Vice President Kamala Harris’s office is reportedly “frustrated” with the “The View” after a pair of positive COVID-19 tests sent producers scrambling, booted two of the co-hosts from Harris’s segment, and left the Vice President forced to do her interview via video link to a back room at the studio.

Production was sent into “chaos” and the interview was a “fiasco,” according to sources close to the incident who spoke to CNN.

“One of the people explained that Harris’ office required the hosts of ‘The View’ to take a PCR test within 24 hours of the interview. That person said that a representative of the ABC talk show suggested the night before Harris’ appearance that the tests had come back negative,” CNN reported Thursday.

“Harris and her staff didn’t learn the truth until the dramatic moment on live television when co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro were abruptly pulled from the set,” the outlet reported.

The positive tests created a bizarre tableau, with Hostin and Navarro told, on air, that they needed to leave The View’s iconic kitchen table. After a quick break, co-host Whoopi Goldberg was forced to admit the pair had tested positive for COVID-19 despite being vaccinated “up the wazoo” — per Goldberg — and Harris did her interview remotely from backstage.

Navarro revealed later that the PCR tests had thrown a “false positive,” and Hostin claimed that the repercussions for the positive test went beyond The View studios.

“She said her husband, a doctor, had to be pulled out of surgery as a precautionary measure when the news became known, and her children were taken out of school. All are safe,” according to National Public Radio. Hostin and Navarro later took rapid tests and another PCR test, all of which, CNN noted, came back negative.

Harris’ team, which has been notoriously prickly about how the Vice President is portrayed in female-friendly media — even going so far as to go to war with Conde Nast media over a Vogue Magazine cover that earned social media mockery — now says ABC was not “forthcoming” with information on the COVID-19 tests and whether the Vice President, who is also fully vaccinated, was in danger.

“According to a person familiar with the matter, ‘The View’ has not been forthcoming with the vice president’s office, leaving Harris’ staff ‘deeply concerned’ about what happened,” CNN noted. “People familiar with the matter also said that ABC News President Kim Godwin, who was in attendance for the taping, was irked and embarrassed by the whole fiasco.”

Ultimately, the real problem seems to be that, because of the confusion, the Vice President’s interview was delayed and then severely limited. Although the Vice President’s team did not mention the shift in attention, it’s also likely that they are unhappy that Harris’ interview was overshadowed by a bizarre incident, and that the Vice President was forced to address the COVID-19 vaccine issue on the fly.
