A trust linked to the family of California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has donated thousands of dollars to Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis amid the political feud between the two governors.

Fox News reported that records show that the Siebel Family Revocable Trust, which is run by Kenneth Siebel Jr. and Judith Siebel, the parents of Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel, gave $5,000 to the Friends of Ron DeSantis PAC in early April.

The Siebel family has a history of making donations to Republican candidates, including Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), Tom Cotton (R-AR), and Josh Hawley (R-MO).

The revelation comes as Newsom’s re-election campaign bought approximately $105,000 in cable television ads that aired on Fox News in Florida last month claiming that freedom was under attack in the Sunshine State.

“Freedom is under attack in your state,” Newsom claimed in the ad. “I urge all of you to join the fight, or join us in California, where we still believe in freedom. Don’t let them take your freedom.”

DeSantis responded to the attack ads during a press conference shortly after they aired in which he noted the number of people who were leaving California to move to Florida.

“Everyone wants to talk about me in Florida,” DeSantis said. “I mean, like I’m just sitting here, like, little old me doing my job. I can just tell you this. I was born and raised in this state. And until the last few years, I rarely, if ever, saw a California license plate in the state of Florida. You now see a lot of them. I can tell you. If you go to California, you ain’t seeing very many Florida license plates.”
