Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson raised eyebrows on Tuesday when, under questioning from Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), she claimed that she could not “provide a definition for the word woman” in “this context.”

As The Daily Wire reported:

“Can you provide a definition for the word ‘woman’?” Blackburn asked.

“Can I provide a definition?” Jackson repeated the question.

“Mmhmm, yeah,” Blackburn confirmed.

“I can’t,” Jackson replied.

“You can’t?” Blackburn asked.

“Not — in this context, I’m not a biologist,” Jackson laughed.

Blackburn’s follow-up question suggested that Judge Jackson was unable to define a woman because she adhered to the same school of radical thought that drives gender identity activism that is rampant in the United States’ education and legal system today.

“So you believe the meaning of the word ‘woman’ is so unclear and controversial that you can’t give me a definition?” Blackburn asked.

Radical gender activism has been on display in multiple arenas in recent months. In the last week alone, Twitter suspended TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, censored Fox News host Tucker Carlson, and locked the account of satire site The Babylon Bee — all because they refused to refer to transgender HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, a biological male, as a female.

Additionally, author J.K. Rowling has been labeled a TERF (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist) for saying that women’s rights can only have meaning if the word “woman” has meaning. Female swimmers who had to compete against biologically male NCAA swimmer Lia Thomas were reportedly threatened to keep their mouths shut if they felt unfairly disadvantaged. And activists confirmed to The Daily Wire’s own Matt Walsh, during a recent appearance on “Dr. Phil,” that even they could not define the word “woman.”

As The Daily Wire reported:

“What is a woman? Can you tell me what a woman is?” Walsh queried.

“No, I can’t,” admitted Ethan, “because it’s not for me to say. Womanhood looks different for everybody.”

Speaking to Addison, Walsh stated, “You stood up here and said, ‘Trans women are women.’ What is a woman?”

“Womanhood is … something that I cannot define,” Addison said.

And while Jackson’s initial response — her claim that she could not define the word “woman” — may have been in deference to the progressive Left, what she said next indicated that she may, in fact, know the answer to the question.

“I’m not a biologist,” Jackson said, as if that prevented her from being qualified to define what a woman is.

But if, as gender identity activists have repeatedly insisted, gender truly is a purely social construct — if gender is not at its core fundamentally and explicitly linked to biology — then whether or not Jackson is a biologist is entirely irrelevant to her ability to answer the question at hand.

And the likelihood that someone as well-educated as Jackson does not know that strains credulity.
