The situation at the U.S.-Mexico border is going to keep getting worse because the Biden administration is trying to push two narratives on whether there is a crisis going on, Rep. Lee Zeldin said Thursday.

On one hand, the New York Republican told Fox News’ “Fox and Friends,” the administration refuses to acknowledge there is a crisis, but alternately, the administration wants to say there is a crisis, but it’s all former President Donald Trump’s fault.

“The fact is that this started in a way with the way that (President) Joe Biden ran his campaign from day one,” said Zeldin, pointing out the president’s actions to stop border wall construction, halt deportations, forwarding policies to allow a path for citizenship, and releasing migrants who don’t have dates to report to court.

“On so many different levels, the policies are incentivizing this,” he said.

He added that he does have compassion for people who want to legally pursue the American dream, but said there must be a rule of law to strengthen the borders and have interior security.

“We have seen here on Long Island MS-13 members (after) coming across the border,” said Zeldin. “They end up in New York and people end up suffering from violence from drug trafficking, human trafficking, sex trafficking. It has consequences on Americans in so many different ways.”

His comments came after Customs and Border Patrol reported a member of the MS-13 gang was captured after crossing the nation’s border into California on Wednesday.

Customs and Border Protection reported in a statement that the man, who is 28 years old, was captured with a group of illegal entrants when a CBP agent on patrol encountered six illegal entrants near the border wall and found that the one man, from El Salvador, was a documented gang member.

He and the other five men, including three from El Salvador, one from Mexico, and one from Honduras, will be processed for removal from the United States.

Meanwhile, Zeldin also called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to listen to some of the Texas Democrats in her delegation after she said Biden’s immigration policy was going better than Trump’s did.

“It’s a reminder that between Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, and James Clyburn … they have been serving in the House of Representatives for over 100 years,” Zeldin said. “It’s time to go. We need to bring in new blood, new ideas because you have people like Speaker Pelosi who is just a dishonest hack on stuff like this.”
