The former commanding general of the Arizona National Guard unveiled his anticipated campaign for Senate. Retired Maj. Gen. Mick McGuire (R) made his official announcement on Tuesday through the release of his campaign video.
McGuire became a key figure over the past year as he led the state’s logistical response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He led over 8,000 members of the National Guard to execute essential tasks for areas that were greatly affected by the virus. The retired general insists this experience has offered him the knowledge and skill to successfully guide the U.S. through difficult times.
In his campaign ad, McGuire touted his leadership and referred to himself as a constitutional conservative. He discussed his goals for securing the border, protecting the First and Second Amendment rights, and joining forces with law enforcement.
“I’m Mick McGuire and I’m running for the United States Senate because I’m tired of weak leaders who have pitted American against American,” he declared. “Politicians who sit on the sidelines and fail to act when they know something must be done.”
McGuire is the second Republican to join the Arizona primary race in hopes of unseating Democrat Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.).
