As detention facilities overflow and illegal immigrants flood the southern border at record numbers, Kamala Harris is looking forward to a tax payer funded trip to Mexico City and Guatemala. Joe Biden’s so-called border czar elaborated on these efforts while speaking to reporters on Wednesday.

“It’s the first trip and I’ll be meeting at the front leg of the trip with the President of Guatemala,” she stated. “We have a lot to discuss.”

Her trip comes after state officials along the border have issued disaster declarations for certain regions and proposed state-funded efforts to increase border security. As they continue to weather the constant influx of illegal immigrants, Biden’s border czar seems to have different priorities to discuss with her foreign counterparts.

“What we need to do and can do together to both support the folks who need help in terms of hunger, the economic development, peace, the extreme weather and the impact that has had on their economy,” she explained. “It’s also about having a very frank and honest conversation about the need to address corruption, to address crime, violence, and in particular against some of the most vulnerable populations in that country. ”

Another topic of conversation will reportedly be the Biden administration’s commitment to hand a higher amount of tax-payer funded resources over to Central America. Harris then appeared all too eager to talk about her plans to connect American businesses with Guatemala.

She went on by saying, “also to bear on this conversation the work that we’ve done so far here, meeting with and bringing together CEOs for example, who are prepared to renew or begin a relationship with Guatemala.”

Harris is slated to arrive to Guatemala on Sunday and then Mexico City on Monday, but it is unclear when or if she will schedule a press conference on the migrant crisis or visit the border herself.
