New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stopped short of imposing a mask mandate, but instead advised city residents to wear masks indoors regardless of their vaccination status. De Blasio announced the recommendations on Monday, which was based on the CDC’s updated guidance.
The Democrat mayor said the move was part of efforts to help curb the fast spreading Delta variant.
“We want to strongly recommend that people wear masks in indoor settings, even if you’re vaccinated,” he announced. “…Absolutely crucial to wear a mask even if you are vaccinated. The difference, of course, is if you’re around fully vaccinated people. That’s a better situation.”
A reminder: unvaccinated New Yorkers need to wear a mask in ALL public settings, outdoors and indoors.

De Blasio also announced all city employees would be required to show proof of vaccination before returning to work.
