Peloton said on Wednesday it was recalling its Tread and Tread+ treadmills, reversing course after Chief Executive Officer John Foley earlier urged owners of its machines only to check safety warnings following the death of a child in an accident.

The company had resisted implementing a recall when the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning last month, after one child died in an incident involving the machine. The CPSC said that 70 injuries tied to the treadmills have been reported in addition to the child’s death.

But on Wednesday, the company announced the voluntary recall s over safety concerns.

“I want to be clear, Peloton made a mistake in our initial response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request that we recall the Tread+,” CEO John Foley said in a statement.  “We should have engaged more productively with them from the outset. For that, I apologize.”

About 125,000 treadmills are included in the recall.

The company is telling customers to immediately stop using those models nnd contact Peloton for a full refund, or other qualified remedy.
