Congressman Jim Banks (R-Ind.) recently criticized a top U.S. Navy officer for advancing critical race theory among his fellow service members. During a hearing Tuesday, the Republican representative took aim at Adm. Michael Gilday while asking why he’s promoting a book that talks about ”explicitly anti-American teachings.”

Banks asked the admiral why he thought it was so important to promote a book that calls the U.S. Navy “racist.” He added, “cultural Marxism” is dangerous and asserted that it has no place in the armed forces.

“What part of this book is redeeming and qualifies as something that every United States navy sailor should read?” asked the Indiana lawmaker. “Do you expect that after sailor reads this book that says the United States Navy is racist that we will increase or decrease moral, cohesion and recruiting rates in the United States Navy?”

Banks said far-left talking points would reduce the morale and preparedness of U.S. service members, in turn, damaging the nation’s national security.
