A new report has found that the U.S. government has continued to buy Chinese technology despite a ban imposed by President Donald Trump two years ago.

According to research firm IPVM, more than 300 government organizations across the U.S. had purchased Chinese surveillance equipment in defiance of a federal ban imposed in Aug. 2019. These products include thermal vision and surveillance cameras by Chinese manufacturers Hikvision and Dahua.

President Trump banned these products specifically, expressing how they pose a threat to U.S. national security. Furthermore, the Trump administration banned the import of certain apparel and computer parts from China due to the belief that the products were being produced by forced laborers.

Yet, the report shows local governments have ignored Trump’s order despite security concerns.
