President Joe Biden tested positive for Covid-19 and is experiencing “mild symptoms,” the White House announced on Thursday morning.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre released a statement confirming that the “fully vaccinated and twice boosted” Biden, who has repeatedly and incorrectly claimed that people who get the Covid-19 jab can’t spread the virus, began taking Paxlovid, commonly known as the Covid pill, to treat symptoms related to the virus.

Despite his condition, Jean-Pierre said Biden still plans to “carry out all of his duties fully” from quarantine.

“He has been in contact with members of the White House staff by phone this morning, and will participate in his planned meetings at the White House this morning via phone and Zoom from the residence,” Jean-Pierre wrote.

Jean-Pierre said the White House is working to notify White House staff and others who were recently exposed to the president. She also said Biden will work in isolation “until he tests negative.”

In the meantime, Jean-Pierre promised the White House would “provide a daily update on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”

The announcement comes one day after Biden randomly, and apparently falsely, claimed he has cancer caused by oil pollution in Delaware.

The White House physician quickly released a statement clarifying that while Biden“has had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed” before, the Democrat “remains a healthy, vigorous, 78-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief.”
